Born and bred scouser and have frequented Allerton Rd many a times since 1999! I've been to many a cafes in Allerton over the last 20 years and they ranged from very very average to a bit pretentious. There are only 2 establishments on Allerton Rd I believe are excellent in terms of value for money, quality of ingredients, quality of service and general atmosphere- Pierre Griffes is one of them. Strangely enough I remember the cafe that was here before Pierre Griffes and it wasn't good at all (had been there a long time), and I spotted Pierre Griffes months ago. The multiple times I've seen it since, I've never felt compelled to go in for whatever reason - until today......! It was a very rainy Sunday and i noticed that there were a few tables available and thought, better now than never. I love the French theme inside - nice and subtle. Chairs are incredibly comfortable with great quality decor overall. Menu had a good range of food - and kept things simple which I like (it is the French way....). I had the Salmon and Cheese Omlette and my mum the Egg Royale. We were serviced by a very sweet, unassuming and super friendly young lady. Perfect service, as she knew how to strike the right balance between giving us space and privacy and ensuring we were OK. My omelette was seriously impressive. This isn't your average omelette that anyone can throw together, this is a French omelette which is totally different- and miles better. Well seasoned , fluffy, the right thickness and had a subtle lightly grilled texture on top - as a French omelette should be. Served with a simple salad garnish, two slices of baguette and side serving of 2nr butters (I appreciated the fact I got 1 per slice - i can't begin to tell you how much it does my head I to be given one small bit of butter for 2 slices of bread.....lol). My mum's poached eggs looked great - they actually looked like poached eggs too! (Some places poach their eggs in a tightly wrapped cling film, so only feels like you've got a yolk!). I'm proper fussy when I eat out nowadays, whether that's Allerton Rd, Lark Lane (I've lived off Lark Lane for 8 years and most places on the lane are either average, and/or overpriced), and it's so refreshing to come across the triangular gem - value for money, quality of ingredients and great service. You do get some pretentious places on Allerton Rd or the Lane where you're paying like 15 for eggs royale, which is obscene regardless if it tastes very nice or not. I want to feel relaxed in a venue and not feel like I'm hanging out with Instagram, middle class, BMW drivers The atmosphere is great at Pierre Griffes as everyone is normal and nice haha. It's simple, delicate and relaxing. Whenever I find a gem, I do go out of my way to make a long positive review, because I really want the world to know I've found a great place that ticks all the boxes. Especially if it's an independent business, they need all the support they can get. I'll be going back again 100%.
I really really enjoyed my experience here! I had more photos but they were blurred (oops). The food was lovely, great quality and the service was great! The atmosphere was peaceful and the place seriously beautiful !!! Thank you for a great night
My partner and I dropped in last Friday evening and enjoyed one of the best steaks we have ever had! Even by comparison to the more well known (and vastly more expensive) steak houses in the city, they stood out and were charred to perfection and absolutely delicious. We’ve eaten at Pierre Griffe a number of times and have always enjoyed it, the staff are great and it has a really chilled vibe, day or night which we like. The menu is small, allowing the owner and chef to concentrate on quality and although I haven’t tried everything (yet), I can honestly say, he does just that. Everything that comes out the kitchen is cooked beautifully. There is something about the way he cooks his onion, theyre phenomenal so I always try to include them, either in the dish istelf or asking for some on the side! I can recommend the omelettes, club sandwich (which is huge), the steak (obviously), the salt & pepper goujons and the French onion soup which is quickly becoming something of a local legend with people travelling specifically for it.
Went for breakfast this morning with my wife and I must say definitely one of the best English breakfast I have had the ingredients were first class beautiful poached egg cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is perfect with French style decor just sit back close your eyes and you are in paris on the bank of the river seine
Went with a couple of friends, perfect place for a catch up and lovely food. Service was lovely. Food was perfect, had chicken and potato special, was beautiful. Perfect place for lovely food with more personal service. Would recommend!
We popped in for lunch on a wet Sunday afternoon, and very glad we did. A lovely little restaurant with a chilled out atmosphere. I had the smoked salmon and scrambled egg croissant, which was absolutely delicious. My partner has a gluten free diet, but this was no issue as they had options for most of their menu. The staff were attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back.
Brilliant Bistro, we had an amazing experience. Food was superb, staff were really friendly and extremely comfortable cracking jokes. The inside was decorated beautifully and it was fascinating being able to see the kitchen from the dining room. Would highly recommend
Visited of a lunch time and had coffee and the French Onion soup. Coffee was fabulous and the soup on another level to what I’ve had before. The service and atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, I will definitely be back!
